Friday

It's Friday...and time for more Modern Whimsy Style!

Hello there people.  I don't know about your neck of the woods, but here in Newman Lake, WA we are expecting temps in the low single digits with a wind chill up to -20 degrees!  Now that's COLD!  And, it's not going away for a few days, so I just figure more time to hunker down, bake some cookies, keep the water boiling for tea, throw a roast in the crockpot and make some cards!

I actually made this next card on Wednesday after a hard day at work...my way of releasing a bit of tension :o)

The Modern Whimsy Style challenge is going on over at Papertrey Ink and although I have already entered 2 cards, I figured why not another...and maybe another tomorrow too!

Here's my latest modern whimsy style card:

Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday: Modern Whimsy Style

Modern whimsy style is not necessarily the style I turn to very often for card making and paper crafting, so it was a bit of a stretch for me, to say the least.  I have a little basket with a lot of odds and ends...mostly pieces and parts I was going to use at one time or another, but for some reason didn't.  This whole card is made from those odds and ends.

So, here's what I came up with:

Papertrey Ink November Blog Hop

This month's blog hop over at Papertrey Ink is all about cute little holiday houses.  There's even a template available for download so you can make your own miniature house.

For my house, I used the template and made the large part of my house out of a nice sparkly patterned print cardstock.  I used some of the dies I have to cut out windows and used vellum to back them.  I also used some of the dies from the City Scene set to make a door and some trees across the front of the house (I made the trees dimensional by adding an extra top piece and sliding it down onto the main piece), again in some coordinating sparkly paper.  The roof was edge-punched to add a decorative touch and I fashioned a chimney from the same paper I used for the house to top it all off.  I finished the house by adding the banner across the front showing Love Lives Here from the Love Lives Here stamp set.

This little house would be cute with one of those little battery operated tea lights shining through the vellum windows.  Maybe I should make a whole village!

ETA:  I just so happen to find one of those little tea lights so I turned it on and took a photo with it inside the house.  See the nice glow from the windows?  Would be very cool at night!

Moxie Fab Thanks! Blog Hop

First of all, I want to thank Moxie Fab World, especially Cath, for the hard work they put into maintaining a quality, fun, informative blog for everyone to view and participate in.  Thanks to Moxie Fab World, I was further encouraged to participate in challenges, contests and the like to expand my skills and abilities in papercrafting.  I have even been published twice in Papercrafts

I will sadly miss Cath, but I know there's got to be a lot more in store for her as she continues on her path in life.

For this Moxie Fab Thanks! Blog Hop, I decided to put in a card from the past.  The card pictured below is one I made for a challenge a while back, but the sentiment is meant for Cath!  It is her day...her day to enjoy the many friends she's made along the way, including myself.

Take a look at some of the other blogs along the hop:
You likely arrived here after hopping from Carol Wilson's blog, and now onto the next in line, Maureen Plut for some more Moxie Fab Thanks!

Happy Day Cath...It's Your Day!!!

Moxie Fab Cath!

I remember a few years ago when I first stumbled upon Moxie Fab World and Cath.  I was exhilarated to find such a wonderful site with such a wonderful hostess!  That very day, I entered a comment-to-win contest and I won!  I was so excited, and so hooked!  Over the past couple years, I've participated in challenges on Moxie Fab World, and I've learned about other crafters around the web.  I've posted one of the cards below I entered into the Minty Fresh challenge some time ago.  I chose this card because I want Cath to remember she is "One of a Kind", "Perfect Just the Way You Are", and to "Just Be You"!  I will miss Cath and her distinct style of verse.

More Collage for Tuesday Trigger at Moxie Fab World

My second attempt for the Moxie Fab World Tuesday Trigger: It's Collagical has a little more collage characteristics to it than my first attempt.  Again, I took some inspiration from the birds and butterflies.  Here's the Tuesday Trigger photo:

Tuesday Trigger: It's Collagical

There's a challenge going on that ends today over at Moxie Fab World called Tuesday Trigger: It's Collagical and you guessed it, it's all about cards with collages.  I gathered a lot of inspiration from the birds and butterflies in the trigger photo below.  Here's my first attempt:

Birthday Card Challenge: 356 entries and counting....

That's right friends, 356 entries so far in the Moxie Fab World birthday card challenge. I typically make birthday cards for people at work, family, friends, etc. WHEN the time comes...around their birthday.  So stretching out and making birthday cards without knowing the recipient can be difficult because you just don't know their personality.  Here's my entry, it's number 357:

Birthday Sketch Challenge

Hey bloggers, it's been a while since I've posted.  I've been making cards for a lot of challenges lately, but can never seem to find the time to take the photos, edit them and post them on my blog to link them up for the challenge.  It's been a challenge doing the challenges!  Anyway, here's one for you...a birthday sketch challenge over at Moxie Fab World.  Here's my take on this sketch:

More Papertrey Anniversary Celebration

I've been super busy trying to keep up with all this card-making to help celebrate Papertrey Ink's 6th anniversary, along with all my other everyday "stuff" I've got going on.  Luckily, today I had the day to myself to spend in my studio where I created a few cards while relaxing and listening to some of my favorite music from Norah Jones.  The first card I have to share is one I created in similar style to that of Melissa Phillips.  I visit her blog daily for inspiration.  She makes it look SO easy to whip up some images, sentiments, paper and tidbits to make beautiful cards and creations.

Papertrey Day 2- Part 3

Anyone for a cup of tea?  Being home all day today getting rest and drinking plenty of ginger/lemon tea with honey in it has made me feel much better.  Speaking of tea, here is my 3rd card of the night celebrating Papertrey Ink's anniversary:

Papertrey Day 2- Part 2

Here's my second card of the night to help celebrate Papertrey Ink's 6th anniversary.  I typically don't make masculine cards very often and I have a couple men celebrating birthdays soon (my hubby and his twin share Valentine's Day as a birthday!) so here's a card with masculine flair (my camera was not taking good photos this evening so the colors are a bit washed out):

Papertrey Anniversary Continues- Day 2

Today was a day filled with card making for me.  I went home from work early yesterday because I have not been feeling very well, and today I stayed home all day to make cards rest.  I really did get some rest.  For me, it's very relaxing to sit and make cards.  It helps clear my mind and gets my creative juices flowing.  And what could be better than to have some GREAT free dowloadables  to help me be more creative?  Papertrey Ink has a sheet of free downloads HERE.  Just print a sheet or two (I always print once on white cardstock, and once on vanilla cardstock to give myself some options).  So, I have made a few cards and will be posting them individually so I can enter them in the current PTI contest.  And here's the first one:

Papertrey Ink's 6th Anniversary-Day 1

Let the festivities begin!  Papertrey Ink is celebrating its 6th anniversary by hosting some fun contests and other activities.  Today's post on PTI is all about spotlighting the PTI Design Team.  These gals work wonders with the fabulous stamps and products PTI sells.  The Design Team members have each chosen 6 of their favorite projects made with PTI product.  Today's contest is to create a project inspired by one of the Design Team member's projects.  For my first entry, I chose a beauty made by Cristina Kowalczyk.  A gal at work just became a grandmother for the first time, so I felt a Welcome Baby card was appropriate.
